14^th February V Wanborough Juniors

The under 7’s had another tough game this week against Wanborough Juniors.

Abbey Meads took an early lead when a long shot from Tom Ponting caused confusion in the Wanborough defence and led to an own goal.

Wanborough hit back straight away with a quick equaliser but Abbey Meads restored their lead soon after when Tom Ponting ran through and finished well.

The goal scoring continued as Wanborough equalised then scored another to take the lead.

Wanborough then extended their lead to 4-2 before Tom Ponting got his second of the match to give a half time score of 4-3.

The second half saw more great attacking football from both teams with Wanborough adding another 2 to their tally to extend their lead to 6-3. Abbey Meads came back strongly and Archie Atwell hit 2 goals to continue his great scoring run and set up a frantic last few minutes. Despite some late pressure Abbey Meads were unable to get an equaliser and the match finished 6-5.

The whole team worked really hard throughout the game and fought right up to the final whistle. Tom Warren had a brilliant game in midfield to earn him the man of the match award. Zack Stretch also had a good game and Connor Harry made some great tackles and passes.
